Dalit Sthree Sakthi has launched a campaign on the eve of International Campaign on the elimination of violence against women (16 days activism) from 25th November to 10th December 2019. As part of this 16 days activism, conferences were held at district headquarters in the working area of DSS and also the campaign was launched in a big way in the villages. In the conferences held at district headquarters the police department, women and child welfare department have been involved and the prevailing conditions in the respective districts were explained in detailed and the necessary measures to curtail violence have been explained to the participants. The major incidents that took place in the respective districts were narrated in brief and the reasons leading to the incidents and the action taken by the concerned officials after the incident, the violation by the duty bearers were pin pointed and ways forward to eradicate violence against women inspite of the special Acts have been debated. The campaign was launched on 25th November 2019 at Hyderabad with a state level Round Table Conference on violence against Dalit Adivasi women and concluded the campaign on 10th December 2019 by holding a Round Table Conference on Atrocities against Dalit Adivasi women. The campaign was held in 60 villages spread over 5 districts and on the whole more than 10000 people have been created awareness on the reasons of violence and the need to uproot it from the base level. Guntur District: The district level Conference on violence against Dalit Adivasi women was held at ZP Hall, Guntur on 29th November 2019. Sri Samuel Anand, IAS, District Collector of Guntur has participated as the chief guest and released the campaign posters. Speaking on the occasion the Collector
appreciated the services of DSS in curtailing violence against dalit Adivasi women and girl children. He said that only education with values among all will put an end to the violence and there is every need for all the women to be educated and must be able to address their issues on their own. Krishnaveni, In-charge Project Director of Women & Child Welfare has said that we need to leave gender disparities and women are the one who practice genderdisparities at home by discriminating girl children and treat them as secondary citizens. Sri Rama Krishna, Additional Director of District Industries department has stressed that economic empowerment is very essential for dalit Adivasi women and they need to access the schemes relevant to them through SCSP/TSP Act, become entrepreneurs and thus job givers instead of remaining as job seekers.
West Godavari District: The district level Conference on violence against dalit Adivasi women was held in Ladies Club, Eluru on 3rd December 2019. Sri Srinivas Rao, the police official of District SC, ST Cell, Ganga Bhavani, Police official from District Women cell, Surya Chakra Veni, District Child development officer, Martha from ITDA and B Sudarshan from AIDRF have participated in the conference as speakers.
National Convener and National Program Manager of DSS have narrated few brutal murders occurred in the district and the failure of the police department in taking stern action against
the culprits to reduce the incidents of violence in future. They said that since centuries the violence on women is prevailing over in the forms of caste, class and religion and gender. The discrimination can be seen very clearly on the way the government, media and the lager civil society responding to the incidents occurred on the women belonging to the dominantcommunity and nearly letting of the brutal gang
rapes and murders on the dalit Adivasi women. Any sort of violence on women irrespective of caste need to be dealt in the same lens, apart from working on the roots for the violence.
The police officials have said that in view of the recent incidents and the DISHA Act the police department have geared up and equipped them self to tackle the issues effectively and are putting more efforts on the preventive measures. The other dignitaries have said that on
behalf of their respective departments they have planned for organising awareness campaigns in a bigger way to cover all the stake holders.
Adilabad district: A mammoth meeting was organised in association with SAKHI at the conference hall of DRDA, Adilabad on 7th December 2019. The Secretary District Legal Services Authority has participated as the chief guest and the other dignitaries were DM&HO, DWO – Women & Child Welfare and DSP- Adilabad. Yashoda, the centre administrator of SAKHI has detailed about the various forms of violence, the incidents taken up by SAKHIand the prevailing situation in the district. She urged all the dignitaries to extend their supportand strengthened their hands to eradicate gender-based violence. The dignitaries have detailed about the various measures taken up to create awareness among the community and the joint intervention of police department and SAKHI/One Stop centre by organising awareness programs through cultural programs etc. They also stressed the need of collective approach.
